Dr. Hyde is a SoCal native and has an eclectic past that has prepared him to minister in the diverse religious culture of Southern California. Baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, he spent his early childhood in the Calvary Chapel Movement after his father was converted. After experiencing much brokenness within his family, he was invited to Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach, a Foursquare Church, when he was 17 and was converted to Christ. He attended Southern California College (now Vanguard University), an Assemblies of God school, on a basketball scholarship. It was during this time that he became disillusioned as a young believer leading him on a two-year journey exploring Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism as well as the cults such as Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses. All the while he youth pastored at a non-denominational Pentecostal church. He discovered the riches of the historic Protestant and Reformed Christian faith after meeting a classmate who introduced him to The White Horse Inn radio broadcast and through a theology professor, who started giving him books by Luther, Calvin, Owen, and others.

Dr. Hyde has been the founding pastor of the Oceanside United Reformed Church since 2000. He has written over 20 books exploring and introducing people to biblical, theological, and practical topics within the Christian faith. He has contributed to the academy with articles in American Theological Inquiry, Calvin Theological Journal, Mid-America Journal of Theology, Puritan Reformed Journal, The Confessional Presbyterian, and The North American Anglican as well as to the recent revival in John Owen Studies with several chapters and articles. Most recently he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in the Department of Dogmatics and Ecumenics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, which was entitled, “’These are the Times’: Public Worship as Manifestation of a New Age of Theo-Politics in the Theology of John Owen.” Dr. Hyde has also lectured at the Instituto João Calvino in Recife, Brazil, Mid-America Reformed Seminary, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Westminster Seminary California, and Westminster Theological Seminary.

He is married to Karajean, who serves as Director of the Irvine Math Project, and they have four children: Cyprian (who plays basketball at the University of Portland), Caiden, Daxton, and Sadie. Together they enjoy showing hospitality in their home for meals, prayer, and to study the Word.
