Waiting for the Lord: Free Resources for the Month of December
For many, Advent may bring to mind beautiful flowers and greenery, jingling bells and full-throated song, and general “Christ is born” festivity. But in fact those wonderful features of the season are connected with Christmas, which is the culmination of the Advent season. Advent itself is about waiting for that culmination, and this is a time of the year in which the Lord forms us as faithful waiting people. And the more we come to appreciate waiting as among the most difficult callings of the ordinary Christian life, the more meaningful this time of year becomes. But what is waiting, exactly? How do we experience it? How is waiting related to the Gospel?
Greystone Theological Institute is pleased to offer the following lectures on waiting for FREE for the month of December. Learn more about these resources below! These lectures are taken from Greystone’s popular full course, The Order of Reality, which explores time, space, and vocation as constitutive aspects of the real, biblical world in which we live. These lectures on waiting are drawn from the section of that course which focuses on time: The Order of Reality: Sacred Time.
These lectures consider the nature of time within the biblical ritual world with a view to the complex history of our changing concepts of time, the ordering of time for humanity within Scripture in relation to the identity and works of God, the Christology of time in relation to biblical hermeneutics, marking time as a matter of faith, our experience of time in terms of delay and waiting/patience, the role of faithfulness in time (especially the sabbath idea) in resisting the oppression of a sabbath-less, production- and consumption-oriented world order, reducing anxiety for ourselves, and advancing the Church’s identity in the present as an alternative community in which time is experienced deliberately and theologically.

The Greystone Membership
Greystone is persuaded that robust theological fellowship should not be limited to formal degree program contexts, and that rigorous theological formation should be accessible to all. For these reasons, we have crafted a Membership for the modest amount of $18 a month (the price of a paperback). Greystone Members enjoy:
Unlimited access to hundreds of lecture hours across multiple disciplines including ThM/PhD courses, micro-course modules, special lectures, postgraduate seminar series, and symposia and lecture events held by our Lydia Center for Women and Families and Mechanical Arts Program (MAP).
Free access to all Greystone Reading Rooms. A Reading Room is more than a book club, but less than a class. Discussion-based and scholar-led, Greystone Members get free access to all Greystone Reading Room events throughout the year;
Greystone Texts & Studies, a Members-only series of electronic and print publications of otherwise inaccessible historic and contemporary resources for Reformed theology, worship, and edification;
Gleanings, a Members-only newsletter that collects together a wide assortment of theological, biblical, historical, ethical, ecclesiastical, and cultural resources that may serve as edifying conversation partners for the recovery and advancement of theological formation in the mode of confessional Reformed theology.
Exclusive discounted rates for select live events to interact with the lecturer and the Greystone community of students and faculty, and to partake in the Greystone Way of prayer, feasting, and fellowship;
The opportunity to help fund free ministerial training and general edification resources in regions of the world lacking quality Reformed theological education options.
