What is the duty of the pastor? This question has been asked and answered throughout Church history. Today, there is a considerable problem within the broader protestant Church of celebrity culture. In this culture, the duty of the pastor is rarely thought through. He is a celebrity, a speaker, but rarely is he considered a pastor. How might answering this question with the classical notion of casuistry help combat celebrity culture in the Church? Episode 6 of Quick to Listen is a brief selection from lecture 3.1 of Dr. Mark A. Garcia's upcoming MAR/MDiv module, Moral Theology for Ministry. In this selection, Dr. Garcia considers the pastoral vocation and its classical roots in the priority of casuistry.
